Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the a-spec community?
A-spec is shorthand for the asexual and aromantic spectrums, which include asexual, aromantic, demisexual, demiromantic, graysexual, aroace, and related identities. This collection brings our pride products for all of those identities into one place. Our asexual and aromantic blog covers the full spectrum.
Q: What do the asexual pride flag colours mean?
The asexual pride flag was finalized through an AVEN community vote in 2010. Its four stripes — black, grey, white, and purple — represent asexuality, the grey area (demi/grey), allies and non-sexual partners, and community. Browse our pride flags guide for the full history.
Q: What does the aromantic pride flag represent?
The aromantic pride flag was designed by Cameron Whimsy in 2014. Its five stripes — dark green, light green, white, grey, and black — represent aromanticism, the aromantic spectrum, aesthetic and platonic attraction, the grey-aromantic and demiromantic area, and the wider a-spec community. Read more in our pride flags guide.
Q: What is the difference between demisexual and demiromantic?
Demisexual people only experience sexual attraction after forming a strong emotional bond. Demiromantic people only experience romantic attraction after forming that same kind of bond. You can be one, the other, both, or neither. Our demisexual and demiromantic blog goes deeper.
Q: Does Proud Zebra support a-spec visibility?
Yes. We design a-spec products year-round, not just during Ace Week or Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week, because a-spec visibility matters every day. A portion of profits from our pride collections is donated to LGBTQ+ charities — see our LGBTQ+ Donations page for named recipients.
